A Dog Running Towards Us

A Dog Running Towards Us

I'm not sure who that dog belongs to. It might be friendly.

Oil on canvas
35cm x 45cm

£450.00 Framed
Well the seaside promenade is vaguely familiar, complete with important monument and wandering tourists. It looks to be extremely hot. The dog is a bit of a worry - is it friendly? Is it mine running towards me in greeting or is it in full attack mode? I'm not sure.
Ceremony Of The Paper Discs

Ceremony Of The Paper Discs

If you were to have a ceremony involving brightly coloured paper discs then this is how it would look.

Oil on canvas
50cm x 60cm

£550.00 Framed
Painted from a dream of people on a hillside involved in a strange ceremony involving brightly coloured paper discs. I'm not sure what it's all about but they seem to be enjoying themselves. Perhaps it's a comment on how to an outsider other peoples cultures can seem extremely strange.
Exploration By Balloon

Exploration By Balloon

I think some of the other places I have painted are down there - somewhere in that landscape. I'm still exploring.

Oil on canvas
25cm x 32cm
Sold
This painting was inspired by a dream of a mountainous landscape - explorers in a balloon boat drifting over an undiscovered land. Clear, fresh air, a lake, a mill and a distant lakeside town.

Promenade Des Perados

Promenade Des Perados

Imaginary landscape, clear mountain air, a giant statue, desperados arriving bottom right.

Oil on canvas
25cm x 35cm

An imaginary landscape bright with sunshine and clear mountain air, a giant statue to the left and desperados arriving bottom right. It could be like that and in an infinite number of parallel universes somewhere it is.

The Exploration Of Nubia

The Exploration Of Nubia

I have never been to Nubia - but if you were exploring there this is how it would look.

Oil on canvas
25cm x 30cm
Sold
This idea emerged when I was doodling around on the canvas unsure of my subject. I love the topographical illustrations of the 18th - 19th centuries - this painting is a nod in that direction.

Oil on canvas
25cm x 30cm

City Harbour

City Harbour

This is part of the city that is seen across the lake in "Exploration By Balloon". It's a strange place to park an ocean liner.

Oil on canvas
40cm x 50cm

£425.00 Framed
An ocean liner parked in the heart of the city. It seems most unlikely but there is the unquestionable logic of a dream. If New York were crossed with Venice it would perhaos look like this.
Flypast

Flypast

I sat on the cliffs and the aeroplanes flew past so close I felt I could reach out and touch them. So I painted this.

Oil on canvas
33cm x 44cm

£450.00 Framed
Many, many years ago I sat on Culver Down on the Isle Of Wight and an aeroplane from Bembridge airfield was doing aerobatics. It flew past so close I felt I could reach out and touch it. In this painting I added another plane and included myself, just watching.
An Explanation For The Archbishop

An Explanation For The Archbishop

I'm not sure quite who is in trouble here - but someone has some explaining to do.

Oil on canvas
25cm x 35cm

£375.00 Framed
One can interpret this in lots of different ways. Maybe the gothic ruins represent the state of the church with the archbishop remaining as an essentially comic figure. The domes could be an observatory representing science or a mosque representing alternative beliefs. Maybe the explanation given to the archbishop is an apology for the damage caused or a view of the universe from a non believers perspective.
